A great summer hike that begins near Salt Lake City, Utah up Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountain Range.
This is definitely a favorite hike. The 1st hour or so of the hike is very beautiful winding through aspen groves and pines. From early on I could see the Mt Raymond Peak.
Views in all directions had extremely beautiful mountain shadows throughout the hike.
This is another shot of Mt Raymond (left of center), and you can see the ascent for Gobblers Knob heading off on the right.

This is the start of the final ascent to Mt Raymond's peak.
John Veranth's book "Hiking the Wasatch" is an excellent guide for this hike.
This shot is looking down into Millcreek Canyon.
This shot is from the top of Mt Raymond looking south across Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Again, from the top of Mt Raymond, but overlooking the Salt Lake Valley.
This view is looking towards Mount Olympus.
This is heading back down Mt Raymond, where I ascended straight back up to Gobblers Knob pictured here.
Top of Gobblers Knob.
From Gobblers Knob, looking up Big Cottonwood Canyon towards Brighton ski area.
Overlooking Millcreek Canyon and beyond.
Aspens on the way back down.
Getting there: The trailhead to Butler Fork is 8.5 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon. 1/2 a mile into the hike, the trail forks. Take the left fork and head to the Desolation Trail, which you'll pass and continue north to get to the ridge between Mt Raymond and Gobbler's Knob. It's an easy scramble to the top of Mt Raymond. This hike was was 9-10 miles roundtrip.
