I was surprised at how beautiful the open hills of tall grass were at the beginning of this hike. The wild flowers were already on their way out, so this hike is definitely best for very early in the season. We began our hike at the end of Eagle Point Blvd in North Salt Lake, where the Bonneville Shoreline Trail picks up. We stayed on the road around the bend over looking the Salt Lake Valley. We headed up past the satellite towers to overlook City Creek Canyon, then North on the dirt road. This section of the hike was very beautiful traversing hills high above the city--it felt very country-like.
We were hoping to find a trail to complete the circle and take us back to our starting point, but ended up fighting through thick bushes and trying to stay on wildlife trails to return. I'm going off of memory, but I think the total loop took us about 3 1/2 hours. Overall, I would recommend this hike for the early season.
