White Pine Lake 7/15/07

A great mid summer hike near Logan, Utah that begins in Logan Canyon on the Wasatch Mountain Range.

This is actually a destination hike, but very worth it. The first 2 - 2 1/2 miles of the hike had many Indian Paintbrush flowers.

Finally after 2 1/2 to 3 miles we reached the descent into a gully of sorts where the hike becomes one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen.
At the bottom we began the approach to White Pine Lake that is surrounded by cliffs.
The hike to the west side of the lake will surround you will tall wildflowers and amazing views of the cliffs behind the lake.
Continuing along the west side heading south it looks like there's a cave in the cliff. It was a very steep scramble to get to it, but not really much of a cave once you get there.

Getting there: About 22 miles north of Logan on Hwy 89 turn at the sign for Tony Grove Lake and Campground. Go about 7 miles to Tony Grove Lake. The trailhead is on the north side of the parking lot entrace (not further into the parking lot directly north of the lake--we made the mistake of starting north right next to the lake and got lost--had to back track). The hike was about 6 1/2 miles roundtrip.
