Lower Bells Canyon Reservoir 5/3/09

My favorite early spring hike that begins in Sandy, Utah near Salt Lake City, at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon on the Wasatch Mountain Range.

About the first half to one mile of this hike was on exposed hillside, but then we reached the reservoir and the mountain suddenly surrounded us with amazing views up the canyon and trail winding along a stream and through forest. Here are pics from the beginning of the hike. The Lower Bells Reservoir.
Just east of the reservoir we cut south into the trees along the trail instead of following the road due east.
We've gone much further up the canyon before where you'll find large boulders, pools of water and more and more awesome sights at every turn, but this hike we turned around at this point due to oncoming rain.
Getting there: At the intersection of Wasatch Blvd and 9800 S. head east into the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Right after the intersection you'll see the newly renovated parking area for the trailhead.
